Rule 1.1C1 on General material designation has had changes made to both of its lists. List 1 is used by British agencies and List 2 is the one used by Australia,

Rule 21.1B2 (d) (part of Ch. 21 Choice of access points)

Publications reporting the activity of a conference, expedition or event can now be entered under the heading for that activity provided that it appears anywhere in the item being catalogued

Ill. covers plates but plates does not cover ill.
It is OK to call plates ill but not all ill. are plates.

In the 008 field , because all the illustrations are plates:-

coats of arms, facsim., forms, geneal. tables, maps , music, plans, portraits.

If none of these is adequate use another term as appropriate, eg.

computer drawings, cross sections, etc.

This means that if graphs are a important you can use it in the $b field.
