Edition statements

In general an edition statement should not appear in the 250 field unless it is expressly found in the item in hand. An exception may be made if an item lacks an edition statement but is known to contain significant changes from other editions. In this case supply a suitable brief statement in the language of the title proper and enclose it within square brackets, e.g.
250 b/b/ $a[New ed.]

Paperback items are usually produced from the same electronic document or galley proofs as their hardbound counterparts.

The edition statement:
250 b/b/ $aPaperback ed.
should only be used if it is taken from the prescribed source of information.

The edition statement;
250 b/b/ $a[Paperback ed.]
should only be used if it is necessary to point out that the contents of the paperback copy differ significantly from the contents of other manifestations of the same work.
